Washington State Rejects Charter Schools

The New York Times is reporting that voters in Washington State have again rejected funding charter schools. The ballot measure had been strongly opposed by the Washington State Teacher's Union. It had been supported by Bill Gates.

Charter schools are free to operate without many of the restrictions and red-tape of governmental control. They are also outside the influence of the unions. Liberal groups have been very vocal in their opposition to the opening of charter schools (in Washington State) on even an experimental basis.

In some areas, charter schools have been a resounding success. In others, they have been plagued by scandal and corruption. Sadly, the people of Washington State are fearful of innovation.

In spite of the recent Presidential election, it's interesting to know that the state that
prohibited Halloween is still safely in the realm of the barking moonbat.
