Coach Carter Goes Hollywood

Ken Carter
Do you remember the story a few years ago (easy registration may be needed) about the controversial Richmond, California high school basketball coach that was having an undefeated season? He decided to bench his entire team due to their poor grades and poorer class attendance.

Coach Ken Carter of Richmond High School caused a firestorm of controversy when he forfeited two games during the 1999 season. He reminded both parents and players what the purpose of a high school really ought to be.

A couple of years later, he quit coaching and took to the lecture and television appearance circuit, including regular appearances on the "Dr. Phil" show.

A movie about his story, "Coach Carter," is scheduled for release to theaters this Friday.
