School Board Member Kills Wife And Then Turns Gun On Self

From the deserts of Southern California comes this story of a popular school board member that shot his wife and then turned the gun on himself. The Imperial Valley Press is reporting that Rodney Arterberry, a Trustee of the Brawley Union High School District, shot and killed his estranged wife following an altercation in front of the family home. He then took his own life.

What makes this particular tale so tragic is the fact that Arterberry was not only a member of the local school board, but was also a highly-respected Deputy Sheriff. As reported by the paper, further information was unavailable because the Imperial County Sheriff's office was closed in observance of Veterans' Day.

According to sources in the community, the Arterberrys were undergoing divorce proceedings. Their three children are staying with relatives.
