The Spellings Report: Good News For (some) Charters!

U.S. Education Secretary Margaret Spellings has some good news for certain charter schools:
Three organizations-the KIPP Foundation, the Charter School Development Corporation, and the Local Initiatives Support Corporation-will receive a total of $21.6 million for three grants through the Charter Schools Facilities Grants program, U.S. Secretary of Education Margaret Spellings announced today. These organizations will use the funds to support charter school construction around the country.
Read the whole thing.

I've always been impressed by KIPP schools and the work that they do. Read all about the Knowledge Is Power Program
right here.

Now if we could get Madame Secretary to actually make some proposals that would help teachers accomplish her stated objective of "leaving no child behind," we'd be a lot happier.

She could start by pushing for legislation requiring parents to attend parent-teacher conferences when called for the purpose of discussing a child's academic needs.
