Four Years Of Past Practices

Intercepts has tipped us that the state of California will be increasing education funding some 8.6% for the coming year. Predicting the future is never perfect, but over the last four years our school district here in California's "Imperial" Valley has established some patterns of behavior that might be of use in trying to figure-out how this increase in funding is likely to be spent:

If past practice is any indicator of future events, classroom teachers won't see a nickel of this in the form of increased take-home pay in spite of the fact that test scores have continued to rise each and every year.

If past practice is any indicator of future events, I can just bet that there will be a couple of new administrative positions created down at the district office and countless others in our local County Office of Education.

If past practice is any indicator of future events, there will be a lots of out of town travel for a number of employees who work in a variety of offices but not in the classrooms.

If past practice is any indicator of future events, certain folks will be receiving new office furnishings. And one in particular may get an even more generous car allowance.

If past practice is any indicator of future events, the student-to-teacher ratio in our school will still be 35-1 in five years...
