This Just In: Debra Lafave To Stand Trial!

Debra Beasley Lafave, disgraced ex-teacher and admitted child molester, will stand trial after all:
A judge in Marion County has rejected Debra LaFave's plea deal. A trial is now scheduled in Marion County for April 10.

LaFave, a former schoolteacher, is accused of having sexual relations with one of her students. She faced separate charges in both Hillsborough and Marion counties. A plea deal was made for the Hillsborough charges, but today's ruling has had the plea deal rejected for only Marion County.

What we understand this to mean is that the judge in Marion County has a problem with the plea as it relates to LaFave's activities in Marion County.

It is not yet known how this will affect the case in Hillsborough County.

The trial is expected to go forward in Marion, despite the family of the victim's wishes.
While I can certainly understand the family's need for closure, this monster needs to serve some serious jail time for her crimes. The plea bargain that the judge rejected would not have required Lafave to spend any time behind bars, but merely three years of house arrest.

My guess is that while under "community control" she would have been permitted visitors, and to even accept payment for "work" such as giving interviews or multi-million dollar photo spreads.
