A Red Apple Salute To Teacher Brian Massegee

The Irving, Texas School Board has announced their Teacher Of The Month for February 2005:

Brian Massegee, English teacher at Irving High, was honored as Teacher of the Month for February. Massegee has worked for the district for six years, served on the IHS Campus Improvement Committee for two years, and is currently on the District Improvement Committee. Massegee has consulted with TEA on writing the English Language Arts exam, and has played a critical role in writing the district’s ELA curriculum. Irving High principal Carolyn Dowler says that Massegee is considered the campus expert on TAAS and TAKS writing.

Massegee takes a particular interest in at-risk students. He was a founding member of the IHS at-risk training program. He regularly holds Saturday tutoring sessions. During the weeks just prior to TAKS testing, as many as 125 students per Saturday sought his help.

For Mr. Massegee and all the other hard-working teachers out there who continue serving our students but remain unnamed and unrecognized, we offer our "Red Apple Salute."
