Textbook Says Slaves Brought To "Help"

According to Atlanta's largest newspaper, the Atlanta Journal- Constitution, third grade school textbooks used in several Georgia public school systems state, "Georgia was one of the states that used slaves to help grow cotton and other crops." The book does not indicate that slaves were brought here against their will. An editorial goes on to say, "Childhood innocence doesn't mean childhood ignorance."

Several African-American parents are demanding the removal of the textbook. Local school boards have declined to withdraw the book.
