L.A. Dudes Don't Read

One of our Sources has sent us this story from L.A. Daily News - News . What it's about is the fact that so many young workers in the Los Angeles area can't read enough to successfully function in our society.

According to the News, some 53% of workers ages 16 and older are "functionally illiterate." The study sites failing schools and unchecked immigration as the reasons why this situation exists.

Many of these semi-literate people are well aware of the problem, and some 90% do enroll in some type of adult-education class. The unfortunate fact is that some 50% of them dropout.

The truly tragic (and unmentioned) consequence of this unhappy situation is the fact that the children of people that are functionally illiterate are at such a serious disadvantage when it comes time for them to attend school.

So the problem becomes multi-generational. And that is unacceptable.
