Mark Foley: A Predator's Disclaimer?

It seems as though each time I hear Mark Foley's (pictured) lawyer, David Roth, open his mouths, he says this or something similar:
"Mark Foley has never, ever had inappropriate sexual contact with a minor in his life," Roth said. "He is absolutely, positively not a pedophile."
I take this to mean that Foley has had "sexual contact with a minor," but that he doesn't view it as "inappropriate."

Could this be because the "age of consent" in Washington D.C. is only 16 years of age?

I'm sure that this disgraced former Congressman creep is attempting to hide additional unethical, if not downright criminal, behavior.

I can feel it in my bones.

It is our view that all "sexual contact with a minor" by any adult is, to use Foley's word, "inappropriate."

And for the record, I don't buy Foley's "checking into rehab" gambit for a moment.

My guess is that this is a stratagem developed by Foley's handlers in order to lesson the damage to Foley's public image by giving him the excuse of saying that his despicable actions were manifestations of (what we're sure is fabricated) alchoholism.

Foley should be investigated, tried, and if found guilty of any criminal act, punished like any other malefactor.

Prediction: Even if found guilty, Foley's not going to do any actual jail time. He'll get a little "community service" and probation.

Update: (10/04) Foley's public relations counter-attack continues. He is now attempting to transform himself into the victim of the very behavior that he is suspected of! See Ms. Cornelius' spot-on post over there at A Shrewdness of Apes and her related comments here at our place.
