An NBCT In Every Classroom?

At the American Federation of Teachers' NCLBlog, Michele states that kids benefit from having a National Board Certified Teacher in the classroom while John isn't so sure that there is a correlation between credentials and student achievement.

Eduwonk.com offers
some interesting commentary about both NCLBlog and NBCTs.

In our 315 teacher elementary school district here in California's "Imperial" Valley, there is not one National Board Certified Teacher.

I wonder why that is?

Perhaps it's that $300.00 non-refundable
application fee or the $2500.00 assessment fee that frightens-off perspective candidates.

Or maybe its the fact that in our district, an NBCT would not earn a penny in extra compensation.
