Editorial Comment: On Putting-Down A Vicious Animal

Joseph P. Smith is the animal whose kidnapping of 11-year-old Carlie Brucia was caught on videotape. She was later raped and murdered by this malefactor.

Now the admitted murderer is
begging for his life.

It is cases like these, those that involve the sexual assault and murder of children, that demand the swift imposition of the death penalty.

The jury in this case has already recommended death; it is now up to the judge to sentence Smith to death or life in prison without possibility of parole.

The infuriating thing is that if this creature is indeed sentenced to death, he will likely die of old age before his date with the executioner. This is because of the endless rounds of appeals that this obviously-guilty preditor will pursue in both state and federal courts.
