Food Critics

Obesity threatens to overwhelm an entire generation of our nation's youngsters. So how can we get them to eat better? Here's yet another installment in the endless debate over the need for school cafeterias to serve healthier food. At the junior high school where I work, students are feed a relentless procession of hamburgers, pizza, (Papa Johns) burritos, and corndogs.

To its credit, our Cafeteria has experimented with an excellent salad-bar. But it's doubtful that it'll be back next year. The problem wasn't that the kids wouldn't eat the healthy foods that were offered; they did. The problem was the mess that our poorly-mannered and apathetic students left for our cafeteria staff to clean up.
